Run Together.
If I said the words "high school" to you and we could immediately have some sort of tracking mechanism that could record and chronicle all of the thought threads that emerged in your mind at the moment you heard the words, it would be magnificent to see the volume and detail of that chronicle. Some beautifully brilliant. Some dreadfully hard. Let's keep our little experiment going and try a few more.
First kiss.
Salvation story.
Marking moments.
You fill in the blank:)
This past weekend, some of our family gathered in Savannah for our oldest to run his first half marathon and Lea and I then got to join him in running a 5k together through a tunnel of Spanish moss dripping trees. If you were to say the words Savannah weekend to me today, these would be some of the chronicle that is firing in my mind as I sit here.
Emma's midnight arrival at Beacon Hall.
Unexpected car troubles in minute two of our trip.
World Series Champs celebration traffic jams.
Picking up race bibs with 1 minute to spare.
Hearing Emma calling for Uncle TT with joy and delight on her face.
Taylor battling into beginning a weighty half marathon on a miserably dreary, cold, rainy morning.
Beholding the teamwork of husband and wife in the midst of adversity.
Joyful triumph to watch Taylor persevere and celebrate a painful and beautiful half marathon.
The moment we saw Taylor at mile 9.
The moment we saw Taylor at the finish line.
Brothers and sisters loving each other deeply.
Just holding Emma.
Lea's strength and determination as she runs.
Lea's strength and determination as she loves.
Celebration brunch and pumpkin waffles and lingering conversation.
Holy moments on the sand of Tybee.
Savoring moments at the Crab Shack.
All of that and more.
After several decades of living life together, as your family begins to disperse in the world, you assess your heart about these people that you spent so much time with and the new people they introduce you to. Maybe you miss each other or maybe you celebrate new distance. You hold moments of reunion in particular ways. Different for everyone. The picture above is part of the chronicle of my "Savannah weekend".
Running together remembering.
Running together celebrating.
Running together grieving.
Running together in thanksgiving.
Running together needy.
Running together messy.
Running together shouting.
Running together laughing.
Running together as friends.
Running together as friends.
Wow.
Running together as friends.
Thank you God.
Consider a chronicle for you sometime soon.
You pick the topic.
