Little Christ.

“Now the whole offer which Christianity makes is this: that we can, if we let God have His way, come to share in the life of Christ. If we do, we shall then be sharing a life which was begotten, not made, which always existed and always will exist. Christ is the Son of God. If we share in this kind of life we also shall be sons of God. We shall love the Father as He does and the Holy Ghost will arise in us. He came to this world and became a man in order to spread to other men the kind of life He has — by what I call 'good infection.' Every Christian is to become a little Christ. The whole purpose of becoming a Christian is simply nothing else.”

One of my mentors, Larry, was the first to share this thought with Lea and I. They are the words of C.S. Lewis.

Staggering.

We are becoming little Christs.

I wonder what it might be like to sit with Lewis and listen to him read from the Scriptures the different places that informed and influenced this thought in Him. Lea and I had the joy and honor of looking into the faces of 15 students last night on a redemptive Zoom screen. I looked at many of them with their heads down looking into the Words of God thinking about these thoughts. Oh, it was such an honor to watch them. Such an honor to wonder how You, Papa, might be forming their thoughts and perceptions of You, how You might be forming them in that moment into a little Christ. And this morning. Please Lord, do it in them. Please Lord, do it in me. Please Lord, do it in this reader.

These are the Words that we roamed around in last night.

"For those whom God foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren." (bible book of Romans, chapter 8, verse 29

"My children, with whom I am again in labor until Christ is formed in you..." (bible book of Galatians, chapter 4, verse 19)

"Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is." (bible book of First John, chapter 3, verse 2)

I want to be rooted into these words of truth today. I need these "can opener" truths today. And tomorrow. God, from forever, You have known that You would graciously, gloriously, gutsily, conform me to be like Your Son. Of all that You could have dreamt I would be like, nothing and no-one more beautiful, more strong, more expansively glorious than Your own Son. And You are forming Your own Son IN ME. And You are declaring that when that very Jesus appears again, that we will be like Him. It will be complete. From becoming little Christs to being like Him. I want to be like my big Brother.

And this process is painful. It is. Gloriously so painful.

You know.

I notice Clive's words up there in these pandemic days. "Good infection". Ah, yes, good Father. May this "good infection" spread in me today like a rampant pandemic. In my marriage. In my family. In Your church. Your infection is greater than any pandemic.

I imagine it today. The rampant "good infection" of "little Christs" being formed today.

There's more.
