A lament in the heart swirl.
As I slow to try to take in the breadth of all that is happening, I can’t really do it. I feel the expansiveness of it all press on my heart. I imagine all the hearts. I wonder about God and all the hearts. I sense my heart slowing to lament. The process of grieving is from the Lord. It is our way to sort our hearts out with Him on a day to day, moment by moment basis. Lord please help us as we struggle. Lord please help us as we cry. Lord please help us as we process. Lord please help us as we turn away. The riot of the streets and the riot of my heart co-mingle.
Words of lament. Lord. People are dying. People are hurting. People are confused. People are angry. Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord. People are passionate. People are numb. People are acting out. People are silent. Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord. We all need You. That is not a predictable, throwaway line. It is raw bedrock. We are all unbelieving at some level. We get that about each other. Birth compassion out of that unbelieving neediness in our collective, disjointed heart. Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Bible book of Genesis, chapter 6, verses 5 and 6. . “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. The Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart." The Hebrew here indicates, “cut to the heart”. God’s heart. Grieves. Bible book of Isaiah, chapter 53, verse 3. “He was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and like one from whom men hide their face He was despised and we did not esteem Him.” There is invitation to process my rioting heart. And yours. Wherever you may be in these charged days, the man of sorrows gets your heart. He is acquainted with your grief. And theirs. And mine. Expansive acquaintance with grief. I can't fathom it. Stay alert for the reviving work of the Spirit in your heart and mine. Study for ways to serve the oppressed by... living. Even when the living is out of lament. Live amidst lamenting. To be WITH.
Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy.
There's more.
Please Lord. Let there be more.
