Heirs on a normal Wednesday.

How many Wednesdays have you lived? My friend's new son...just a handful of Wednesday's. I'm pushing 2600 Wednesdays. Grannie has pushed past 4100. My dad has nudged over 4500. Methuselah in the bible. 50,388 Wednesdays, give or take a hundred or two (he lived to 969 years old).

I have Wednesday routines. Some Wednesday's I meet early with a friend at Chicfila for breakfast and conversation. I get to pray with campus pastors from the University of Tennessee most Wednesdays. I get to prayer walk the UT campus and later this evening I'll gather with college students to learn together from the Bible. I also usually write this BuyTheField post on Wednesday mornings and have gotten to do that for the last 125 weeks of my life. The things that I'm doing today are normal. They usually happen. There's nothing wrong with that. We are simply living the Wednesday that has been given to us.

And......... we're heirs. Heirs on a normal Wednesday.

Tucked in the first several chapters of the Bible book of Acts is this beautiful, normal Wednesday reality for those who are in Jesus. Chapter 3, verses 24 and 25. The author Luke says that for hundreds of years the prophets have been talking about the specific days that would come in the future and that future was about the arrival of Jesus. And Jesus came! And then the Spirit through Luke says something that breaks forth over this beautifully normal Wednesday for you and I. "And you are heirs of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers. He said to Abraham, 'Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed'." This was certainly spoken over the Jews of that day, but the inclusion of the covenant that God made with Abraham includes you on THIS Wednesday. Bursting forth into this normal Wednesday is that you are an heir.

If you are in Jesus Christ...you are an heir of a life saving covenant and an heir of blessing and being a blessing. Your normal Wednesday is transformed by the power of God in salvation as an heir of all the fullness of God alive in you. And trickling and streaming out of that blood bought covenant in your life, you can be a Wednesday blessing wherever you are today. Rhythms and routines are helpful. And rhythm and routine can also dull us to the supernatural reality that we are heirs this Wednesday and the next and the Thursdays that follow them and .......

So, however many Wednesdays you've lived, it's ok for them to be normal. God has made you an heir right smack in the midst of your normal Wednesday! Only Him.

Lord willing, I'll write again next normal Wednesday:) Number 2601.

There's more.
