Heart stirrings.

Some heart stirrings wandering through my heart in the last days. No explanations, just declarations. The following are words from the The Passion Translation of the Bible mixed with my own words, wonderings and confessions from the Bible book of Matthew, chapter 26, verses 6 through 13.

Jesus is in the city of Bethany at the home of a man named Simon that Jesus had healed of leprosy. A woman came into the house....Yes, you want to be around someone who has been healed by the power of God. Yes, you want to be around the one who is the Healer, not even so He'll heal you, but just to be near the Healer.

The woman had an alabaster flask (fine grained, white translucent form of gypsum) filled with fragrant and expensive oil. She walked right up to Jesus and in a lavish gesture of devotion, she poured out the costly oil and it cascaded over His head as He was at the table.

The disciples and Damon's heart were immediately revealed. They were offended. Offended by what? By extravagant, costly devotion and worship. What a total waste, we grumble. The profit from selling the oil could be given to the poor.

Jesus knows my thoughts and how I judge extravagant worship and devotion. Why are you critical of her Damon?

Let Me name this for you. She has done a beautiful act of kindness for Me. Love Me extravagantly while you can Damon. Won't you?

Why won't you?

When she poured the fragrant oil over Me it was a prophetic, bold, extravagant act of love to prepare Me for burial in my coming, extravagant sacrifice of love for you Damon.

The story of this woman's lavish devotion will be recounted in attachment with the spread of the gospel over and over and over again. Like right now.

Question to ponder.

What is it about Jesus and this woman that her life will be connected to the spread of the gospel ongoing?

There's more.
